Two Arrested Over Death Of Child In 2020 As Police Search Garden For Human Remains

Police are digging up a garden in Birmingham in the search of human remains following the death of a child in 2020. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

West Midlands Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched after receiving information relating to the death of a child at a house in Clarence Road, Handsworth.


Specialist officers are now excavating the garden on the property where they believe the remains of the child may have been buried.


A 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, who have not yet been publically identified, were arrested on Friday.


Both suspects were initially released on bail after being charged with neglect and causing or allowing the death of a child.

West Midlands Police said that the current occupants of the property have no connection to the case.


Authorities confirmed that the man had been remanded into custody after appearing in court - the woman is due to appear in court at a later date.


Detective inspector Joe Davenport said: "We have acted swiftly on information and our enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what has happened.


"I understand that this will come as a shock to the local community but I would ask you not to speculate on the circumstances. "We would encourage anyone who has any information to get in touch."
