Police Release CCTV Footage Showing Gang Shooting In Birmingham That Left A 22-Year-Old Man Dead
West Midlands Police have released CCTV footage showing the gun battle between two rival gangs that left a 22-year-old man dead after perpetrators are jailed.
This shocking CCTV footage shows the gun battle in broad daylight which occurred in Lozells, Birmingham between two rival gangs on August 26, last year.
During the altercation, Naasir Francis, 22, was shot 13 times and killed, he died after being chased down by Teeko Le, 17, and Darnell Donovan-Harris, 22. Paramedics rushed Francis to hospital with gunshot wounds to his stomach, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
West Midland Police released the footage on Friday after Le and Donovan-Harris were both jailed for their roles in the killing.
Le, who is now 18, was jailed for a minimum of 20 years after he was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon. Donovan-Harris, who is now 23, was found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for 18 years following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Rival gang member and friend of Naasir Francis, Lawrence Morgan, 25, was sentenced to 5 years after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm.
The court heard how Le and Donovan-Harris were standing outside the shops in Lozells Road when Naasir and Morgan arrived in their white Lexus.
As Naasir and Morgan got out of their vehicle they noticed the rival gang members and fled the scene, jumping into a passing car of an associate. They then drove to an address and collected a gun and within a few minutes returned to Lozells road, the CCTV footage shows Morgan firing shots at the group from a bicycle and Le shooting back. Morgan jumped back on his bike while Naasir got back into the Lexus.
As Le and Donovan-Harris chased Morgan, they noticed that Naasir was sitting in the driver's side of the car and initially started punching him, Le then opened fire, shooting Naasir who was still in the vehicle. The two of them then fled the scene, leaving Naasir with fatal gunshot wounds.
An analysis of phone records and CCTV placed each one at the scene and over the next few days, all three were arrested.
Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Munro said: "Sadly this is the tragic reality of what carrying a gun can lead to.
"Teeko Le and Morgan chose to carry a gun and open fire in broad daylight knowing any one of them could be instantly killed".
“And sadly that’s what happened to Naasir".
“Naasir’s death is such a waste of life, not only Naasir’s life but also a young man and a teenager who will spend a long time in prison".
"My thoughts remain with Naasir’s family at this difficult time".
