20 People Wounded Following Two Shootings In Milwaukee After NBA Game Between Bucks & Boston Celtics
Two separate shooting incidents took place on Friday night in downtown Milwaukee after thousands of fans had gathered to watch the Milwaukee Bucks play the Boston Celtics in an NBA game.
Authorities confirmed that twenty people have been injured in downtown Milwaukee after two shootings near an entertainment district where thousands of fans had been watching the Milwaukee Bucks play the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA's Eastern Conference semifinals.
None of the injuries sustained from either shooting are believed to be life-threatening.
The first shooting which occurred adjacent to the Deer District - an entertainment district with a number of bars and restaurants - involved three victims.
Police said a 29-year-old man was in custody following the incident. a 30-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and a third person drove themself to a hospital, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.
In the second shooting, which happened just two hours later and only a few blocks away, nine guns were recovered and ten people have been arrested.
There has been no confirmation as yet if the two shootings were related or if they involved fans who were watching the game.
Witnesses told WTMJ-TV that they saw a fight outside a bar after the basketball game had finished.
A local parking attendant, Bill Reinemann, explained that he had heard gunshots but didn't see the shooter or see anyone get shot in the first shooting incident.
Mr Reinemann said: "It sounded like six to eight gunshots, it was close. After the shots were fired, scores of fans began running toward the Deer District."
A spokesperson for the Milwaukee Bucks, Barry Baum said: "This incident took place outside of the Deer District area. We direct all questions to the Milwaukee Police Department."
